Now we're not astrological experts by any means. We know when things are getting out of hand there's probably a full moon and we know that when we leave the smog of our overpopulated, skyscraper-happy city there are twinkling thingamajigs called "stars" lighting the sky (the first time we saw these in mass quantity, we must admit we felt taken aback. Stars. Who knew?).
We've also recently discovered that Spica is the name of the brightest star in the constellation Virgo and the name of Iacoli & McAllister's steel rod, very cool, industrial looking light fixture. Like Spica the star in Virgo, Spica the hanging pendant light easily grabs attention due to its hip, assymetrical formation. Very "with it" and appropriate for the converted warehouse/raw material boom, it's clear to see why Spica was named after a ham of the sky. Since we can't admire such greatness from the window of our NYC apartment (there aren't any stars in shaftways, but we always get a good view of the neighbor's bathroom), Spica brings the inspiration of astrological fame into our space as well as well, lights it. Did you think natural light peeks through shaftways? It certainly doesn't. But thankfully in addition to good looks comes a little bit of ambient lighting to make our apartment brighter.
